About.
I am Brett Brinkmeyer, a lifelong spiritual seeker who found a long and winding path to becoming a spiritual director through a variety of spiritual and religious experiences. While spiritual direction and spirituality are essentially distinct from religion, my walk meandered through various churches, temples, and groups on my way to this place.
"So, what is Spiritual Direction?"
While Spiritual Directors International does not offer a universal definition of Spiritual Direction, they do invite trained directors to offer their own:
I believe that Spiritual Direction is, at its heart, a form of play.
It can be difficult, and is usually rewarding.
It’s a conversational exploration of the knowns and unknowns of life,
and a process of articulating the meaning therein.
I am encouraged to invite and welcome a strong element of mystery into my own spiritual walk. This often results in a meandering path, as people with firm doctrines and dogmas do tend to have a heavy gravitational draw, at least for me. However, I believe that an invitation extended toward the mysteries of the inward truths that we all carry, can result in a better understanding of any outward truths that we may find along the way.
In 2021, I embarked on a three-year journey with PrairieFire, and completed their Spiritual Direction practicum this year. Through those experiences, I learned much about myself and grew tremendously as a spiritual seeker. I now have a collection of resources available to me that I will gladly offer to anyone seeking growth through my services as a Spiritual Director.
Whether or not you choose to walk with me through this process, I hope that you find meaning and fulfillment in your life, and ways to better articulate the heart of your being.
Thanks, and Peace,
Brett C. Brinkmeyer
